When I first heard the song, especially the beat at the beginning, I thought it sounded totally different from previous Tame Impala. The image I get is that after the breakdown of "something trying to get out", we're back to the original poppy-sounding beat, but these inside personal thoughts are in harmony with it now, instead of opposed to it. So at the end of the song, after the vocoder part, the song kind of "restarts" with the distorted guitar lead, and the "let it happen" style vocals return - but now there's the more personal-sounding "maybe I was ready all along" part on top of it. To me it's like the darker side in the drummer's head finally break out and affect the drum beat that's going on in "real life". Then after this continues for a while we get to the synthy "CD skip" breakdown part. It's like a juxtaposition a catchy but kind of sterile beat with way more personal lyrics. To me, I keep getting this image of a drummer playing a repetitive pop song, but his mind is floating around elsewhere, not related to the song at all. But then the drums get filtered out to an almost inaudible level, and we get to the darker, sadder "all this running around." parts. It starts off with the kind of disco-pop vibe, with the repeating drums and "let it happen" lyrics. The way I've thought of it since it came out is kind of like this: Very interesting choice for them to put this one out first but definitely not "single" material. Lyrically it is as personal a song as I think he's ever put out which is a good indicator for the other songs. The end guitar riff is refreshing to get to and as others have said it has a very Daft Punk vibe to it. At first I found them very jarring but that was mainly because I hadn't quite felt out the rhythm of all the parts involved. The glitch/loop parts in the middle continue to grow on me. The lead off electro pop song that gets you in the zone for what is to come. My projection as of now is that Let It Happen is in fact Track 1 and could potentially be a sign of a true concept album.
The context we'll get when LP3 is out and we can hear how it compares to the rest of the album is what I'm really excited for. I don't count the jams played live (they seem like segue jams) and Stranger In Moscow is a cover. the first we've heard since October 2012. Our context right now is that it is a new original song from Tame Impala. I think this song is all about the context. It's gonna carry off all that isn't boundĪnd when it happens, when it happens (I'm gonna be holding on) I heard about a whirlwind that's coming 'round "Let it happen, let it happen (It's gonna feel so good) Do you like it? Is it something you'd like to see more of in LP 3? Or do you want EP and Innerspeaker Tame Impala back?īut not really as loud as the voice saying Obviously this is a large step in a new direction for Tame Impala and it would be nice to hear people's views about that new direction. I decided this would be suitable as it is a hot topic at the moment and although it has already been discussed we've had a few days to have a few more listens and collect our thoughts on the song.
